The beautiful city of Rattenberg is first mentioned in records in 1254 and was granted city privileges in 1393. This quaint city is one of the few cities in Europe with a medieval city centre and, due to the lack of changes over the years, still has a distinct medieval feel to it.

The glass manufacture tradition of Rattenberg dates back to the 19th century. The specialists in glass finishing settled here due to the proximity to the glass foundry in Kramsach, which has a 300-year-old tradition. This important tradition is still prevalent in the city of Rattenberg today and keeps the tradition of being "Tyrol's city of glass" alive and well.
