On hot summer days, we have a really simple trick:
Breakfast, slather on some sunscreen, and off to the mountains! While it often gets really warm in the valley as early as mid-morning, the Spieljoch still offers pleasantly cool mountain air.

 

That’s exactly why we decided to take a family trip to the Spieljochbahn today.

 

THE DAY BEGINS

... relaxing with a delicious breakfast on the sun terrace. Fresh bread, a good cup of coffee, and that gorgeous view of the mountains—that’s the perfect way to start a vacation day. Before we head out, of course, we put sunscreen on the kids. Don’t forget their ears and noses, especially! That’s what our dad, Heini, always used to say - and he was right.

 

⛰ FROM OUR HOTEL

It's just a five-minute walk to the Spieljochbahn.
We already have our tickets, so we can hop right into the gondola without waiting.

Even during the ride, we enjoy the view and look forward to the pleasant temperatures up on the mountain.

 

Once we reach the top, we first head to the newly erected Onkeljoch Cross. The walk takes only about 20 minutes and is easily manageable even for families with children. A particular favorite with our kids: the barefoot trail along the route. It’s a lot of fun and almost makes you forget the short climb.

NEXT UP

For the kids: the large adventure playground at Spieljoch. Here, they can climb, slide, jump, splash around, go boating, and play in the sand. While the kids are busy, we treat ourselves to a coffee on the restaurant’s sun terrace and enjoy the mountain scenery. Those who prefer a bit more action will also find plenty to do at Spieljoch. The Flying Fox, high ropes course, via ferrata, and mountain carts provide plenty of adrenaline.

 

But the day is far from over. To cool off perfectly, we head to the outdoor pool afterward. The kids jump right into the water, and we relax as the day - a complete success - comes to a close.

💡Fazit

The Spieljoch is one of our favorite places to visit in the Zillertal. Short walks, great family attractions, magnificent views, and pleasant temperatures make this mountain the perfect destination for young and old alike, especially on hot summer days.
