Winter hike along the Quellenweg trail at Finsinggrund
When the snow crunches softly underfoot, the air is clear and fresh, and the mountains lie silent and majestic, I know that now is the perfect time for a leisurely winter hike. One of my favourite routes leads from Hochfügen into the idyllic Finsinggrund valley – easy, enjoyable and perfect for leaving everyday life behind.
suitable for everyone
The hike is easy and suitable for all fitness levels. With normal winter hiking gear and good, sturdy footwear, you'll be well equipped for the journey. Getting there is also convenient: the hiking bus takes you to Hochfügen, and there is often a return service from Schellenberg.
Tour description
The tour starts off gently at the lift car park in Hochfügen. It's worth pausing here for a moment to take a deep breath and let your gaze wander over the snow-covered peaks. Then we set off towards Finsinggrund. The first two kilometres or so are slightly downhill, always following the Finsingbach stream. The water gurgles quietly under the ice, the snow glistens in the sun, and if you pay close attention, you will discover animal tracks in the snow along the way – little stories of winter that are rewritten here every day.
At the crossroads in Finsinggrund, the trail branches off towards Huberwinkelalm and Schellenberg. Now it's a gentle climb uphill. The ascent is pleasant and easy to manage, ideal for getting into a calm hiking rhythm. Step by step, beautiful views of the winter landscape of the Zillertal Alps open up, which radiate a very special tranquillity in the cold season.
A cosy place to stop for refreshments
Once you reach the top, a well-deserved break awaits you. The Huberwinkelalm and Gasthof Schellenberg are wonderful places to warm up and recharge your batteries. A hot soup, a delicious Tyrolean dish or simply a cup of tea – everything tastes a little better here when you've worked up an appetite hiking.
There are several options for the return journey. You can either take the same route back and enjoy the winter landscape once again from a different perspective, or you can opt for an easy circular route, for example via the Pflansgarten. Both options are straightforward and make this tour a thoroughly relaxing winter experience.
My conclusion
This winter hike in Finsinggrund is easy but full of impressions. It combines exercise, enjoyment of nature and cosy refreshments – just the right mix for a relaxing day in winter.
